Co-op Academy Oldershaw is resolute in its commitment to the core principle of Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023) that:
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children means:
- Protecting children from maltreatment
- Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
We have the highest expectations of all our staff in their commitment to safeguarding and work in partnership with parents / carers, relevant professionals and external agencies, including the Local Authority, to ensure the best outcomes for all our young people. Co-op Academy Oldershaw is proactive in working with community partners such as Action for Children, Merseyside Counselling and Therapy Centre and Barnardo’s to ensure that we are able to support the emotional wellbeing of our pupils.
